STEVEN Y DAYLEY
August 6, 1946 – May 19, 2012
Steven Y Dayley was doing what he loved most; enjoying the natural beauty of this earth and riding his bike with his wife Karen and close friends. In the sheer pleasure of living his passion, Steve was accidentally hit by a truck and lost his life. Steve was given great news the day before this tragic accident about his Brain Cancer going into remission, and he was excited to participate in one of his favorite bike classics, \\\"Reach the Beach\\\". Steve said, \\\"Cycling makes me feel normal again.\\\" After a year of battling brain cancer, Steve was called home to be with his Heavenly Father, his Savior Jesus Christ and loved ones who had already passed as well as those who are awaiting their earthly journey. Steve was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and would never let an opportunity pass without sharing his testimony of Jesus Christ verbally, or through his tender selfless acts of service and friendship. Born in Burley, Idaho to Mark and Mabel Dayley, Steve is survived by his five siblings Janet Hyde, LaPriel Dayley, JMark Dayley, Viola Ricks, Lee Dayley and his 98 year old Mother Mabel Korth Dayley. Steve\\\'s wife Karen (Jolley) and five children Alan (Julie), Mark (Sarah), Brian (Jenny), Daniel (Rebeckah), and Jeanette (Jonathan McEacheran). In addition, their niece Brenda and husband John Boston whom they embraced as their own, 26 beautiful grandchildren, extended family and friends and are all gathered this weekend in celebration of Steve\\\'s life. Steve served a two year mission for his church in New Zealand 1965-1967. Karen and Steve were a few weeks short of their 43rd wedding anniversary on June 7th. He graduated from Utah State in 1970, and worked in the Electrical Motor Control Industry. Kennewick, Washington was their home for 20 years, and through a job transfer they brought their family to the Portland/Vancouver area in 1989, quickly learning to enjoy the beauty and the rain of the Great Northwest. As a family we are praying for the young man who accidentally hit Steve. It is our prayer that he and his family will be able to feel our love, and we offer our forgiveness. As Steve always asked, \\\"What are we supposed to learn from this?\\\" As a family we are at peace knowing our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend has journeyed to his Eternal Home. There will be a Memorial Ride this September in honor of Steven Y Dayley. Please visit the Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/StevenYDayley. Donations can be made in behalf of Steve.
Steven\\\'s life will be celebrated on Monday, May 28, 2012 at 10AM at the L.D.S. Vancouver East Stake Center. Interment will be private at the Fern Prairie Cemetery. Straub\\\'s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of the arrangements. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book please visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
