Widely Known Pioneer Resident of Fern Prairie Dies.

FERN PRAIRIE—Isaac Stephen Laws, 75, a resident of Clark county all his life and of the Fern Prairie district since boyhood, died Sunday at his home following a long illness.
He was born at Ridgefield April 10, 1860. He came to Fern Prairie at the age of ten with his parents, Preston and Catherine Laws. He married Carrie Stoops of Washougal in the spring of 1882 and after living a while in Vancouver and other points in the county they returned to Fern Prairie and established their home in 1885.
Mrs. Laws died on Nov. 2, 1908, and a son, Charles, on July 3, 1930.
During
his residence of more than 50 years here Mr. Laws was always
interested in the betterment of the community, serving for many years
on the school board and in other local enterprises. He was held in
high esteem by his wide circle of friends.
Survivors include one son, W. W. Laws of Nome, Alaska; two daughters, Mrs. Mae Campbell of Fern Prairie and Mrs. Lutie Smith of Camas, and five grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Swank’s chapel and interment was in the family plot in the Fern Prairie cemetery. Rev. W. E. Rossman officiated.
