Vernon A. Palmer

Vernon A. Palmer of Camas died March 2, 1995, at his home.  He was 70.

Palmer was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Oak Hill, Okla., and moved to Clark County in 1941.  He moved to Camas’ Fern Prairie area in 1950.  During World War II Palmer worked in the Kaiser Shipyard in Vancouver.  Later, he worked for Swift Packing House for 20 years.  In 1988, Palmer retired from Columbia Machine Co. in Vancouver.

In other activities, Palmer was a member of Lacamas Heights Baptist Church in Camas, and enjoyed cutting wood, going for walks, reading and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Maud L. Palmer at home in Camas; daughter, Tina Palmer of Camas; sons, Dale, Earl and Jeff Palmer of Washougal; stepson, Gary Collins of Washougal; sisters, Mabel Manry of Wylie, Texas, and Velma Watkins of Golden, Okla.; brother, Ray Palmer of Vancouver; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

His funeral was held Tuesday at Lacamas Heights Baptist Church.  Burial was at Fern Prairie Cemetery.  Straub’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Lacamas Heights Baptist Church.
