I do not believe there was ever a Merrill Martin Petrand. For some reason I believe the DC on this one was wrong. I have gone on all the census, Roots Web, Family Search, Heritage Quest and Washington digital archives. All I find is this DC for M. M. Petrand. I cannot find a May Petrand at all, any where. I found one John Petrand in New York. He is on one census and was from Austria. Cannot find him outside of NY.
Since the “Merrill Martin Petrand” was born and died on the same day as Merrill Martin Petrain, I believe that a mistake was made at the funeral home and it should have been Merrill Martin Petrain. I have no idea where the Miss May Petrand came from. Normally after being married and having a child, one then becomes Mrs. not Miss.
It will, no doubt be a mystery until I find an obituary.
