Charlotte (Brough) Platt
Charlotte (Brough) Platt, who resided on a small farm north of Camas for 32 years, died April 8, 2004, in Longview, Wash. She was 97.
Platt was born on June 3, 1906, in a cottage on the Drummond Castle Estate in Perthshire, Scotland. Platt married Frank B. Platt, an American medical student in Edinburgh on Oct. 22, 1925, and two years later boarded a ship for America, where they homesteaded near Redding.
In 1935, Platt and her husband, Frank, purchased 40 acres in Fern Prairie, where they reared four children. Platt resided there until shortly after her husband’s death in 1967. Platt lived in Vancouver for 20 years after her husband died and moved to Longview in 1988 to be near her daughter.
She was active in the Fern Prairie Grange, and kept a 50-year Grange pin among a stash of treasured possessions. She also taught Sunday school at the Camas Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, and helped run the small farm. She sold eggs for many years to families and restaurants, including the old Camas Inn. She made good friends throughout her life.
Platt is survived by three sons, Frank B. Platt of Port Angeles, Wash., David S. Platt of Camano Island, Wash., and George A. Platt of Fremont, Calif.; one daughter, Georgeann E. Gaston of Longview; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Platt was buried at the Fern Prairie Cemetery on April 12. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Longview Community Church in Longview.
