CHRIS RASMUSSEN, SR., PIONEER, DIES

Services Held Monday for Paradise Resident of More Than 37 Years; Was Native of Denmark

Funeral services for Chris Rasmussen, Sr., for more than 37 years a resident of this district, were held from the Swank chapel Monday afternoon.  George Lee Jefferson officiated and interment was in the Fern Prairie cemetery.

Mr. Rasmussen was born in Skanderberg, Denmark, May 28, 1857, where he was educated.  He was married to Miss Annie Sorensen in 1883.  Three years later the young couple came to the United States and settled in Wisconsin.

Was Among Pioneers

 In 1889 they were among the pioneers who came west and settled in Portland.  After five years; residence in Oregon City they took up a homestead in the Paradise district where for the past 37 years, Mr. Rasmussen had made his home.

During the latter part of December, Mr. Rasmussen suffered a severe stroke from which he never completely rallied.  He died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of January 2.

Many Survivors

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Watzig, who with her husband lives on a ranch adjoining that of her father’s; three sons, Soren, who resided with his father; Roland R., of Salem, Oregon; and Chris, Jr., of Fern Prairie, and a sister, Mrs. Marian Larson and a brother, Christian Rasmussen of Denmark.  His wife, Mrs. Rasmussen, died 12 years ago.

He was affiliated with the Danish Lutheran church from boyhood and was a member of the Washougal Grange for 32 years.
