Obituary
James Batten
James Batten died Feb. 18, 1998, in Fern Prairie.
He was 62.
Batten was born April 12, 1935, in Ivanhoe, Texas. He grew up in Texas and married his wife Mary Jo there in 1953. They moved to Camas in 1957 and he began working for James River Paper Mill as a machinist. He retired from the mill in 1997 as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association and enjoyed building fiddles.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo at home; sons, Mike and Steve Batten of Camas; daughter, Vicki Collins of Camas; brothers, Charles, Doug and Clois Batten, all of Camas, Bill Batten of Carson, Wash., Keith Batten of Washougal and Dottie Barney of Florida; and 14 grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Feb. 21 at Bethel Community Church in Washougal. Burial followed in the Fern Prairie Cemetery. Straub’s Funeral Home was in care of the arrangements.
